Dos and Dont's for your garbage disposal

Do's:

• Grind food waste with strong flow of cold water
• Grind hard materials such as small bones and fruit pits to clean inside of grinding chamber
• Grind citrus and other melon rinds
• Dispose of small amounts of fat and greases in your garbage disposal
• After grinding, run water for at least 15 seconds to flush drain line

Don'ts:

• Don't use hot water when grinding food waste (although hot water can be drained into disposer between grinding periods)
• Don't turn water or disposer off until grinding is completed and only sounds of motor and water running are heard
• Don't grind extremely fibrous material such as corn husks or artichokes (they will clog the drain)
